Pedestrian Hit

PERTH AMBOY – At approximately 9:16 pm on Saturday, 14 January 2012, Police responded to the area of Pfeiffer Blvd and Columbus Drive on a reported pedestrian struck.

Police Officer David Formeza the first officer on scene immediately radioed for medics after checking the victim, Gabino Jerez-Batista, age 63 a resident of the City of Perth Amboy. Mr. Batista succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced by Dr. Vance of the Raritan Bay Medical Center – Perth Amboy Division at 9:30 pm.

He was observed just prior to the accident in the center of the roadway where he was nearly hit by another vehicle just prior to being hit by a 1995 Ford Thunderbird driven by Norman Menkin, age 72 of Edison, New Jersey which was traveling West bound in the right lane on Pfeiffer Blvd.

The case is being investigated by Detective Stephen Petrosino of the Perth Amboy Police Department anyone with information is asked to call 732-324-3832. No charges have been filed at this time
