The “Press Release” entitled “Perth Amboy to Hold Energy Port Signing” in the 2/21/12 issue of “The Amboy Guardian” gives rise to more questions than it gives facts or answers. The “Press Release” is rich in generalities and short on specific facts.
Apparently Veridian Partners, with no insult that I know of from the public (how about a question and answer session or forum, or perhaps a referendum?) has been approved to develop a E-port Facility at and around the greatly contaminated National Lead Site. My first question is, “How will the contaminations be remediated or addressed, at what cost, by what time and by whom? Also are any costs attached to the City?
The “Press Release” makes the port and distribution center sound like an answer to many of Perth Amboy’s problems. They are not any such thing until the public receives answers to the questions, will the new rail access be utilized to transport toxic substances in and through Perth Amboy, perhaps to Raritan Center? Will such substances pass near the Patten School or new municipal complex, which would be on that route? The public deserves answers.
This was an issue in Linden a few years back and there was much public opposition. The citizens of Perth Amboy need answers so they can decide whether to embrace this project or oppose it.
Very truly yours,
