PERTH AMBOY – Perth Amboy High School has a local youth sailing team. High School students, male and female, sail and/or race during the spring and/or fall seasons. They also sail and kayak during the summer.
The Waterfront Recreation Program runs from just after July 4th through the third week of August. Check with The Perth Amboy Recreation Department for details. If you have any questions on either program, instructor/coach Bertucci can be reached a pahsst@hotmail.com.
A spectacular event is coming soon! On Monday, June 25th, the square-rigger Unicorn will depart from our municipal pier. This classic, topsail schooner will be bound for New London, Connecticut. Six female youth scholarship winners will be onboard with an all female, professional crew. The six local students, girls only aged 14-17 are eligible, will perform any and all tasks necessary for a successful voyage up the East River and then out to eastern end of Long Island Sound. Sailing night and/or day, local students will stand watch, take their turn at mess duties, steering the vessel and climbing the rigging. The sailing voyage is free, but the scholarship winners will need to arrange their own transportation back to Perth Amboy from New London, on Thursday or Friday Afternoon, June 28th or 29th. Local citizens are working to get funding for six scholarships. Learn leadership through adventure! Write and submit a one-page essay on why you should be selected! Read all about it on this page:
