Anti-Nepotism Policy Explained

Councilman Kenneth Gonzalez

PERTH AMBOY – Councilman Kenneth Gonzalez questioned B.A. Greg Fehrenbach to be more specific in explaining the new anti-nepotism policy.

The B.A. explained that it would basically affect non competitive summer, seasonal, per diem, clerks or laborers. “There are three tiers: 1.) If you have candidates that are equally qualified but not related to a current employee. 2.) Residents that are related to current employees. 3.) Non-residents.

They all refer to non-classified or non-competitive positions.

Ken Gonzalez asked specifically about cases where you have those who want to be in the fire and police department that are following in a family tradition to be of service to their community. “For instance if there is a father who is a fireman and the son also wanted to be a firefighter would the son be at a disadvantage if the father is already employed?”

Fehrenbach said, “This policy will not pertain to those departments”
