COMMUNITY VOICE: Choking the Businesses in Perth Amboy

A friend and neighbor has received a ticket for overtime parking on a downtown street. Penalty – 30 bucks! He thought the meter was like the previous ones which took smaller coins than quarters of the present ones. He inserted two dimes and a nickel. A short time ago my wife received a ticket for parking in a no parking zone at the waterfront – penalty 60 bucks! At the hearing the case was dismissed because it was proved that she was not illegally parked. Nor did the police officer complainant show up in court. It is to be noted that the summons are in a totally different form.

This shows that in spite of Mayor Wilda’s valiant efforts to restore our fair city from the depths caused by the previous administration the traffic mess remains as aggravating as ever. During the motorists endure nerve racking moments with numerous stops at each intersection. Not to mention pedestrians darting in and out of parked cars. At certain hours in the morning and afternoon the numerous school buses contribute to the chaos in violation of statutes and at considerable expense to taxpayers!

Like many others I prefer downtown Woodbridge. No parking meters on Main Street! Many free parking lots! And a lot better post office!

The City Council ought to look into this problem which is choking the business of this city. For starters how about one way traffic west on Fayette Street! And one way east on Market Street! And synchronized traffic lights on Smith Street for a smoother traffic flow!

Thank you for your courtesies

Very truly yours,
