As a former resident and frequent visitor to Perth Amboy I would like to make note of the signage on the GSP. As you approach exit 125 it reads Sayreville-South Amboy.
If you are familiar with the area you know that you may take this exit to rte. 35 over the victory bridge and right into downtown Perth-but like I said only if you are familiar with the area. As you continue over the GSP bridge you start to see signs – Woodbridge – Staten Island – a little further one reads Raritan Center.
A little further another sign Woodbridge- Staten Island with arrows indicating the 3 right lanes. As you approach the apex of the bridge another sign reads Woodbridge-Staten Island with words actually telling you to stay in the 3 right lanes.
Are you getting the picture? Not one word about Perth Amboy. As you approach the bottom of the bridge there to the right is a sign reading Perth Amboy. Of course at this point you jockey for position trying not to cause an accident because you had no idea you should be in the right lane.
Knowing how courteous driver are these days I empathize with those trying to enter the forgotten city.
