COMMUNITY VOICE: The Heavenly Gates

I found Peter Book’s comments about Rome in the 1960’s interesting (The Amboy Guardian– March 14th issue). It was kind of him to supply his mother’s friends with rosary beads. He that they were entwined on the wrists of some of those women at their wakes.

He also stated that they made it to heaven without the aid of those beads. Here I disagree. The devotion of the holy rosary is thought to be a most powerful prayer within the Roman Catholic church. Of course, you’re expected to actually use it to meditate or pray during your time on earth, not simply have it as an adornment in your coffin when you depart from this life.

Mr. Book may very well have helped some of those ladies make it through the Heavenly Gates. Prayer by peoples of all faiths is something we need to encourage during the difficult times that our city, country and the world face.
