Women’s Heritage Trail – Sign at the Kearny Cottage—

By Vilma Novak

PERTH AMBOY — The Kearny Cottage Historical Association invited the Raritan Millstone Heritage Alliance attendees, at the War of 1812 program, to join them at the unveiling of the sign from the NJ Historic Preservation Commission placing Kearny Cottage on the Women’s Heritage Trail because of  Elizabeth Lawrence Kearny’s notoriety as a Revolutionary War era poet. Phyllis Gianfrancesco spoke about the Women’s Heritage Trail, Katherine Massopust spoke about Elizabeth Lawrence Kearny and Vilma Novak cut the ribbon revealing the sign. The spirit at the events was that of a family reunion with the homecoming of Captain Lawrence and his visit to Kearny Cottage in honor of his half sister Elizabeth.
