Donation Fund for State Street Fire Victims

PERTH AMBOY, NJ— A five-alarm fire this morning at about 4:00 a.m. left nearly 43 people homeless from a 12-unit apartment building on State Street. A total of 60 residents from the main and neighboring buildings were also evacuated for safety and will not be able to return to their homes until the main building demolition tomorrow.

State Street will be closed between Buckingham Avenue and William Street to vehicular and pedestrian traffic. No missing people and no fatalities were reported. Seven victims are being treated for minor injuries and smoke inhalation. Ten engine and five ladder companies responded, some include: Avenel, Keasbey, Fords, Iselin, Edison, Piscataway, New Brunswick, East Brunswick, South Amboy and Sayreville.

Mayor Wilda Diaz, city officials, the American Red Cross and local organizations are currently working to aid the fire victims, as done for the Cortlandt Fire victims nearly a month ago on June 3rd, where nearly 50 people were displaced.

The City of Perth Amboy and the Jewish Renaissance Foundation (JRF) have once again partnered to collect monetary and ONLY new clothing and shoe donations for the effected families, due to limited storage capacity.
