Perth Amboy PSA Contracts Approved by Board

By Joseph L. Kuchie —

PERTH AMBOY – In front of a nervous crowd of teachers and administrators, the Perth Amboy Board of Education voted to approve the PSA contracts for the 2012-2013 school year.

The contracts of the school district’s administrators expired on July 1st after the board failed to vote on the matter on June 22nd. Although those employees involved would still hold their jobs, they would not have a contract with the Board of Education in September.

The decision came after a two-hour private session discussion by the board. At least fifty teachers and administrators eagerly waited in the first three rows of the auditorium for the board to come back and make a decision.

The list of administrators passed by majority vote except for the principal from the Richardson School. Board president Samuel Lebreault also suggested that the vote be retroactive to July 1st to avoid further issues.

“We have our administrators back,” Lebreault said after the vote. Board member Mark Carvajal was glad the vote passed in time, and apologized to the administrators in the audience.

“I apologize to the district staff, I know there was some confusion, and I don’t think anyone who takes care of our kids on a daily basis should be worried about their jobs,” Carvajal said. “ I apologize for that.”
