Inauguration Celebration of New Parish — Most Holy Name of Jesus

PERTH AMBOY  –  On Saturday, July 14, the Inauguration Celebration was held to commemorate the new Roman Catholic Parish of Most Holy Name of Jesus, or Parroquia Santo Nombre de Jesus, which was created by Bishop Paul Bootkoski on July 1, 2012, from the merger of three Parishes, Holy Trinity, La Asuncion and Our Lady of Hungary. While the merger does legally dissolve the three separate Parish entities, nevertheless, all three Church buildings – Holy Trinity, La Asuncion and Our Lady of Hungary, will retain their current names and remain open year-round as active Worship Sites for the celebration of Masses and the Sacraments. Holy Trinity is located on the corner of Lawrie and Johnstone; La Asuncion is located at 777 Cortlandt Street and Our Lady of Hungary is located on 697 Cortlandt Street.

This momentous celebration started at 3 p.m. with a procession, prayers and singing through the streets surrounding each Church, culminating at a Mass celebrated at 5 p.m., with Receptions following. The Procession began at La Asuncion Church, continuing in Procession to Our Lady of Hungary and then marching down Hall Ave onto Penn Street to Holy Trinity Pastoral Center and then onto Holy Trinity Church, where a bi-lingual Mass of Thanksgiving was celebrated by the Rev. Msgr. John B. Gordon, Pastor Delegate of the Most Holy Name of Jesus for blessings on the new Parish Most Holy Name of Jesus and its congregation.
