Requiem for VFW Sgt. John B. Egan Post 663

They say our ranks are thinning,

I’m not denying it’s so,

We fought the battles of life,

And now it’s almost time to go.

The proudest time in all our lives,

In defense of our beloved country!

Self was forgotten in great and noble cause,

To serve the land of the Brave and Free!

Many thousands of our comrades lost their lives,

They rest in graves here and on foreign shore.

Widows, orphans and the broken in body and mind,

Still suffer from the awful ravages of war!

Dear Fellow Veterans! Come join us once again,

To comfort the victims and honor the forever young.

To remind the public of the price of our liberties,

As God Bless America is loud and proudly sung!

There Comes the time we must leave this life.

With its pleasures, blessings and mortal strife,

Farewell VFW Sgt. John B. Egan Post of the first World War,

We all die but our country’s ideals shall live forever more!
