Raritan Bay Medical Center’s Board of Directors Elects New Members

PERTH AMBOY, – July 30, 2012… Kumar Dasmahapatra, MD, of Bernardsville, NJ; Jit Renjen, of Edison, NJ; Gregory Shypula, MD, FACCS, of Avenel, NJ, and James A. Woller, Esq., of Perth Amboy, NJ, were elected to the Board of Directors of Raritan Bay Medical Center (RBMC) at the board’s annual business meeting.

Longtime member of RBMC’s medical staff, Dr. Dasmahapatra is the current president of the medical staff and chair of the department of surgery.

Renjen is president of Hard Rock Marble & Granite in Roselle, NJ, Ruby Imports, Hard Rock Realty and other ventures in Edison, NJ. He was a Roselle Urban Economic Development Zone board member and is vice president of the Roselle Chamber of Commerce and lifetime member of the Asian Indian Chamber of Commerce.

Another longtime member of RBMC’s medical staff, Dr. Shypula is immediate past president of the medical staff and director, department of medicine, hematology and oncology. He is a clinical assistant professor at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey – Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, NJ.

Woller is president of Pfaltz & Woller, P.A., in Summit, NJ. He is a member of the American, New Jersey and Middlesex, Union and Summit County Bar Associations.

The board serves many purposes, including: overseeing the purpose, plans and policies of the medical center and establishing those overall plans and policies, supervising RBMC’s leadership team, ensuring that the medical center has sufficient resources and is compliant with rules and regulations. The board also advocates for the medical center to external stakeholders and the community at large.

In recent years RBMC has improved amenities, adding private patient rooms, a new Center for Women at its Perth Amboy location and opened new outpatient facilities as part of its patient-focused and comprehensive renewal program. RBMC launched the Human Motion Institute in 2010, a unique program offering a comprehensive continuum of musculoskeletal care and delivering high-quality patient outcomes. The medical center also added the Institute for Weight Loss at its Old Bridge location, providing a variety of surgical and medical options for successful weight loss and support services to help patients maintain a healthy lifestyle to keep the weight off.
