Veteran and Family Day

SAYREVILLE — There will be a Veteran and Family Day on Saturday, August 25th from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Middlesex County Fire Academy, Sayreville. With so many veterans returning from tours in Iraq, Afghanistan, and post Vietnam; and in order to better serve these brave men and women, why not bring the services to them at a centrally located site? The goal is to bring resources like social security, vocational rehab, homeless coordinators, mental health clinicians, and city agencies, to the Sayreville Fire Academy; and assist them, and their families with any issues or concerns that not would be difficult to address during a weekday-yet still have a day in which they’ll be able to share with their families.

Goal: The goal is to bring resources (vendors) on a weekend, to address the immediate needs of our veterans/families.

Purpose: The purpose of this event is for veterans to have a day in which they can bring their kids, and families out to share stories among other veterans, families can meet other children and spouses, and for local leaders to inform residents of their municipalities where they can go for help.

As we all have seen or read in the papers and news, “SUICIDE” is an issue that continues to plague our returning veterans. We must come together and afford these great soldiers the tools they need to succeed. By working together, and networking we’ll be able to reach into every community throughout NJ.

Children will have their faces painted by soldiers, enjoy food and music, and check out all the cool military, EMS, fire, and military equipment on site.
