PARKING – We advise that vehicles to stay clear of areas with trees and other items that may potentially cause vehicle damage. The following lots are open for parking on Saturday, October 27, 2012 after 6:00 pm until further notice.

The municipal lots identified are:

  • YMCA Parking Lot on 365 New Brunswick Ave
  • Train Station
  • Parking Deck on Jefferson Street and New Brunswick Ave.
  • Lot 4 – Hobart Street Lot
  • Lot 9 – New Brunswick Avenue & State Street
  • Lot A- Next to Post Office
  • Lot B- Library parking lot (Next to the Library, 196 Jefferson Street)
  • Lot C- behind Rite Aid
  • RD Howell Lot – 269 Madison Avenue

SHELTER LOCATIONS – The following local shelter locations have been indentified and will be opened as NEEDED for individuals requiring shelter related to this storm emergency ONLY.

  • McGinnis School – 271 State Street
  • Shull School – 380 Hall Avenue

Emergency Operation Center Middlesex County | Regional Shelter:

  • Civic Center located in Woodbridge located on 600 Main Street.

ADDITIONAL PRECAUTIONS

  • Property Owners are advised to place all outdoor furniture and other items in a secure location or indoors.
  • Be mindful of strong weather conditions (high winds and heavy rain) if placing trash at curb side for pick-up
  • Please stay off the roads in severe conditions. If you must travel, please drive appropriate speeds for conditions, be courteous of other drivers, and take extra caution and car pool, when possible.
  • If a Local State of Emergency is declared, travel may be restricted, to ensure safety to public for emergency vehicle passage.

Additional emergency protective measures may be in effect as needed and will be announced through our various contact outlets, listed above.

“GET A KIT” OF EMERGENCY SUPPLIES

ITEMS FOR YOUR HOME

  • Three days’ supply of canned, non-perishable, ready-to-eat FOOD
  • Three days’ supply of WATER (a total of three gallons per family member)
  • Battery-operated RADIO and extra batteries
  • FLASHLIGHT and extra batteries
  • One week’s prescription MEDICATIONS
  • FIRST AID KIT
  • Personal TOILETRIES
  • Non-electric CAN OPENER and UTENSILS

SPECIAL NEEDS items:

  • INFANT care items
  • Items for ELDERLY family members
  • Items for relatives with DISABILITIES
  • CASH or TRAVELERS CHECKS
  • Store important DOCUMENTS in a waterproof, safe location

IN CASE YOU NEED TO EVACUATE

  • Keep a half-gallon of GAS at all times
  • Every family member must carry CONTACT INFORMATION:
  • All phone numbers at work, school, etc. for every family member
  • The name and number of a relative who lives out-of-state, to call in case your family gets separated.

“MAKE A PLAN” FOR YOURSELF, YOUR FAMILY OR YOUR BUSINESS

Meet with the members of your household or office Talk about the types of disasters that are most likely to happen in your area Take time to explain the dangers of emergency incidents to children Discuss why everyone needs to prepare for a disaster Address any special needs concerns in the event of an emergency Build an emergency contact phone list Make provisions for pets Remember to establish and share emergency incident responsibilities Emphasize that teamwork and staying calm are key
