SOUTH AMBOY – The aroma of cocoa and sugar perfumed the air and “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” provided the perfect backdrop for the most unique fundraiser ever to come to South Amboy. Chocolatiers, local bakeries, and area vendors were on hand, as participants sampled decadent treats and bid on specialty gift baskets, event tickets, and other quality items.
The Dowdell Library Foundation hosted this Chocolate Tasting and Silent Auction on Sunday, October 21st, to raise funds for the South Amboy library. All of the $2,000 raised will be used to purchase new computers.
South River’s “2 Chicks with Chocolate” and Edison’s Raritan Bakery co-sponsored this one-of-a-kind event. Along with these sponsors, generous donors included Gertrude Hawk, Maureen’s Candy, The Melting Pot, Thomas Sweet, Valrhona Chocolates, LaBonbonniere Bake Shoppes, Reo Diner, Sipo’s Bakery as well as Foodtown, Jacqueline’s Florist, Talkin’ Heads, State Theatre, South Amboy Y, Colleen’s Kitchen, Sciortino’s, Atlantic Standard, and many more.
A ceremonial cutting of a signature chocolate fudge cake from Harold’s New York Deli was the afternoon’s highlight.
