JRF Donates $14k in Food Donations to Perth Amboy, Carteret & Sayreville, NJ

PERTH AMBOY – The Jewish Renaissance Foundation (JRF) announced that approximately 823 people were assisted with the donation and delivery of much-needed emergency supplies and services to the relief and rebuilding efforts for those severely impacted by Hurricane Sandy on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at Francis Street Park.

The JRF, located at 149 Kearny Avenue in Perth Amboy, and the Boys and Girls Club (BGC) partnered with the American Red Cross, Community Food Bank of New Jersey, and the City of Perth Amboy, to immediately assist families critically affected by Hurricane Sandy in Middlesex County. With the assistance of almost 50 volunteers, families received food baskets, warm meals, MRE’s (meals ready to eat), water, and ice. “I am incredibly grateful and humbled by the outpouring of support provided by Perth Amboy’s Administration, its residents, and our staff in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy,” said Alexandra Mansonet-Cross, chief executive officer of the Jewish Renaissance Foundation. During a crisis, we are all given an opportunity to grow and learn. This past year the JRF has been at the forefront of a number of disasters in Perth Amboy, and as a result, we are confident that as a community we can deal with most anything that comes our way.”

Over seven pallets of food were unloaded early Saturday morning. “We made over 300 food baskets, filled our cars and distributed them all by 2:00 p.m.” said Director of Youth and Family Services, Monserrat Cabral. “We gave people food baskets, helped them get blankets, and carried water cases to their cars.” When the Red Cross came with the warm meals, “the police assisted in taking the food to the homes of the elderly so they wouldn’t have to come out in the cold.”

Another 30 families received food vouchers and diapers through the Family Assistance Center of the JRF. New Jersey has also waived some eligibility requirements in order to better assist the families of the community. For more information and/or assistance please call the JRF at 732.324.2114 x132.
