PERTH AMBOY — Resident Alice Kidney who lives in an apartment complex on Sheridan Street spoke before the City Council at the 11/28/12 meeting.
She voiced her frustration at not knowing there was a state of emergency in the City in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
She thought that the communication should have been better.
Council President Kenneth Balut said, “No one was prepared for this. Even New Jersey 101.5 Radio Station was off the air,” he told Kidney that the building that she was in should have their own security in place. “There were some things that could have been done better, but we did a lot better than other towns.”
Councilman Kenneth Gonzalez said, “We have all these electronic devices plus Channel 34, websites and the Mayor’s Facebook. The Police, Chaplain Corps, etc. had to go door to door to alert citizens. Ms. Kidney’s point is well taken and this storm was a wake-up call to amend our emergency plans. I commend the City overall and PSE&G did a good job.”
