Advisory: Kidnapping Scam

PERTH AMBOY — The Police Department is currently investigating suspicious caller who report a kidnapping of a family members and request ransom for their safe return.

The caller is demanding that ransom money be sent through Western Union or MoneyGram. Suspects are requesting that the victims of the scam stay on the phone while they go to fill out the MoneyGram transfer form.

We have been able to determine that all the calls were received from the same phone number (347) 891 –1626.

All of the victims’ phone numbers at this point begin with (732) 423 9XXX. These are the only numbers that have been targeted at this time. It appears as if the suspects are calling victims who have similar phone numbers changing the last two/three digits.

Anyone receiving this type of call should contact the Police Department immediately at 732 442-4400.
