PUBLIC NOTICE: Vacancy for the Perth Amboy Board of Education

PERTH AMBOY – A vacancy for the Perth Amboy Board of Education exists due to the resignation of one of the current Board Members.

The legal requirements to become a member of the Board of Education are as follows:

• He/she is a registered voter in the district.

• He/she is a citizen of the United States of America.

• He/she must be at least eighteen (18) years of age to qualify for office.

• He/she must be able to read and write.

• He/she has been a resident of Perth Amboy for at least one (1) year preceding the date of the election.

• He/she shall not be directly/indirectly interested in any contract with or claim against the Board.

• He/she shall not hold office as Mayor or a member of the municipal governing body.

• He/she is not disqualified as a voter pursuant to N.J.S.A. 19:4-1.

• He/she shall satisfy a criminal history background check pursuant to N.J.S.A. 18A:12-1.

• The proposed candidates must fulfill the requirements of the New Jersey Ethics Act.

The appointment will be effective until the Organization Meeting following the November 2013 annual school election.

The Board intends to appoint a qualified resident to this vacancy according to the following time schedule:

• A letter of application which includes the candidate’s qualifications, resume, and reasons for wanting to become a Board member should be received by Mr. Derek J. Jess, Board Secretary, no later than 3:00 p.m. on December 18, 2012 at the Administration Building, 178 Barracks Street, Perth Amboy, New Jersey 08861.

• The Board will interview qualified candidates at the next Board Meeting which is scheduled to be held on December 20, 2012.

• Following deliberations, the Board will appoint and seat the replacement Board member at the meeting scheduled for December 20, 2012.
