Renaissance Mayor

As a long time political observer in local politics I was both amused and disturbed by the refusal of Democratic Party Chairwoman Leslie Dominguez-Rodriguez to resign. I fully agree with Councilman William Petrick’s statement that her active support for a Republican does not reflect the values of the Democratic Party and should resign her post.

Regardless of political affiliations the fact that Mayor Wilda Diaz was elected by the people is testimony to the fact that her first term is a resounding success. She is the symbol of a renaissance in the City from the mess of the previous mayor who is now a guest of Uncle Sam. She may have been an “accidental mayor” as stated in the New Jersey State League of Municipalities publication. She has brought charm, dignity, grace and hope to a rundown city. She could well fit the part of a television hostess in the manner of Meredith Viera, Katie Couric or Diana Sawyer. And still keep her day job bringing much fame and credit to her family, friends and the City! Not to mention great pay!

I have been interested in politics and civic affairs since school days. I often thought of running for public office. But then I was more of a walker. Not a runner. The only running I ever did was running away from truant officers, cops, bill collectors, wives, husbands. And since I worked for airlines I was frequently absent on overseas flights and was able to devote to my civic duties. It was a dream job working with swell people in harmony to achieve a common goal of successful flight operations. I dreaded becoming involved with one of the most corrupt states in the country. Did not Gov. Christie earn his great reputation by convicting dozens of corrupt public office holders? I rest my case!

Thank you for your courtesies.
