Police Blotter: Drug Arrest

PERTH AMBOY — On Friday, 11 January 2013 members of the Perth Amboy Police Department’s Special Investigations Bureau were dispatched to Pfieffer Blvd. on a complaint of marijuana smoking from an apartment inside of that building. Upon arrival, Detectives noticed a large gathering inside of one of the apartments where a strong odor of burning marijuana was coming from. Detectives in plain clothes then knocked on the door and one of the occupants opened it. Upon observing the large gathering of young individuals inside of the apartment, Detectives identified themselves as Police Officers. Upon observing the officers, one of the males inside was observed discarding a sandwich bag of marijuana into a nearby garbage can. Once the gathering was safely dispersed, the marijuana was retrieved from the garbage can and the male who was identified as Stephon Wilton, age 19 of 18 Cedar Hill Lane, Toms River, N.J. was placed under arrest.

Wilton possessed (5) additional pieces of marijuana separated into small paper pieces packaged for individual sale along with $173 in U.S. Currency. After an investigation, a consent search was conducted of a 2004 Honda Accord belonging to Wilton that was parked outside where a silver and black colored FEG 9mm semi-automatic handgun loaded with 7 rounds of ammunition was recovered from the vehicle.

Wilton was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Firearm for an Unlawful Purpose, Possession of Marijuana with the Intent to Distribute, Possession of Marijuana with the Intent to Distribute within 1000 feet of a School Zone & Possession of Marijuana under 50 grams.

Bail was set by the Honorable Judge George M. Boyd at $75,000.00 with no 10% option. The total street value of the CDS seized is approximately $200.00. The investigation was led by Detective Sergeant Carmelo Jimenez Jr.
