Puerto Rican Association for Human Development, Inc. (PRAHD) Is Commemorating National Women & Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day 2013

PERTH AMBOY — The Health Oriented Youth (HOY) Program has been in existence for over 22 year, successfully educating and empowering youth to adopt healthy and productive lifestyles for the prevention of HIV/AIDS and other STD’s. With the support of our agency, the Puerto Rican Association for Human Development, Inc. (PRAHD), the HOY Program currently provides outreach, educational workshops, one-on-one counseling and referral services to over 300 young women annually.

National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day is a nationwide observance held on March 10 designed to raise awareness of the increasing impact HIV/AIDS on women and girls. On this National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, the eighth annual observance, we are encouraging individuals and communities to embrace the theme “Share Knowledge. Take Action.”

On Saturday March 9th, 2013 PRAHD will be commemorating National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day by hosting a fashion show. We will motivate our community to take action in the fight against HIV/AIDS and raise awareness of its impact on women and girls. HIV/AIDS is a serious public health issue affecting nearly 280,000 women in the United States. While men account for most HIV/AIDS cases, the impact on women is growing rapidly. Our goal is to continue encouraging women and girls to stay focused on positive activities that would lead them to a brighter and healthier future.
