COMMUNITY VOICE: Good Democrats

How surprising to see a paid political ad in last week’s edition of the Amboy Guardian with former mayoral candidates Frank Salado, Miguel Morales and Bob McCoy surrounding current Mayor Diaz encouraging all to “unite” for the good of the Democratic party.

I didn’t know there was a “way” for a democrat to be better than another democrat. What I come away with after reading Mayor Diaz’s political ad is that the best way to be a good democrat is to be a democrat like she is. But isn’t that the same reason the three other democratic s became candidates for mayor and decided to run against Diaz?

Defeated Mayoral candidate Miguel Morales of Mayor Diaz’s leadership efforts “With all due respect you are not a full time mayor, the business administrator is,” (Amboy Guardian Oct. 26, 2012)

Defeated Mayoral candidate Frank Salado on Mayor Diaz’s handling of our police department “According to the crime statistics, at least one crime is occurring in Perth Amboy every five hours,” Salado said. “We have recently had shootings, and last week a 20-year-old boy was stabbed to death. Something needs to be done.” (Amboy Guardian Oct. 26, 2012)

Defeated Mayoral candidate Bob McCoy on Mayor Diaz’s inability to stabilize taxes, “I propose to repackage those previous construction projects that would expand the city’s tax base and introduce new tax revenues to help stabilize local taxes.” (Amboy Guardian Oct. 23, 2012)

Since they all are on the same team now I guess Mr. Morales is agreeable to a part-time mayor, Mr.Salado is content with a soaring crime rate and Mr. McCoy believes stabilizing taxes should no longer be a priority.

Truth is the Diaz way to be a democrat was defeated with 65% of our registered voters wanting change. If all of you want to be good democrats, ensure that by the time the next election comes around, the winner will need a mandatory 51% or more of the majority to hold office. That’s being a good democrat.
