American Legion Meeting — April 8

MATAWAN — Dear Fellow Legionnaire:

You are cordially invited to join us for a truly historical event, Monday evening, April 8, at The Burrowes Mansion, 94 Main Street, Matawan, beginning 8 p.m. April 8 marks The Official Reactivation of Matawan Post 176, American Legion. Post 176 once played a major role in the Matawan-Aberdeen Community, as its once majestic Main Street building was also the site of Matawan Borough Hall, Police Station, Retail and Community Center. But alas, when nine members transferred from Post 176 to Middletown last year, Monmouth County’s Adjutant sought to “Surrender (Post 176’s) charter for cancellation.”

Members stepped forward, committed to reactivating the Post. As of today, Post 176’s membership has tripled, and we are now asked to file the “Annual Post Data Report” by April 15th, which is to include our 2013-2014 Post 176 officers. We therefore ask you to join us Monday evening, so we may continue the momentum.

Joseph M. Gugliuzza, Monmouth County Adjutant, will be our guest Monday evening, to address the American Legion program, and how it provides vital services for our Veterans. Matawan Historian John Savolaine, member of Post 176, will describe the role of The Burrowes Mansion in the founding of Our Great Republic. Refreshments will be served. Put Monday, April 8th on your calendar, and join us.

P.S. We have also been invited by Matawan Recreation Director Deidre Ring to participate in Matawan’s Sunday, May 26th Memorial Day Parade again this year. We have participated the last two years. If you are interested, please telephone 732 583-5069.

Thank-you for your kind attention.

Sincerely, James E. Shea,

Acting Membership Chairman,
