Days of Remembrance Holocaust Remembrance Ceremony

PERTH AMBOY — Mayor Wilda Diaz will host the 2013 National Days of Remembrance in the City Hall Council Chambers on Tuesday, April 16 to follow the Israeli Flag Raising held by the local Jewish Community.

As stated by the USHMM, remembrance not only obligates us to memorialize those who were killed during the Holocaust, but it also reminds us of the fragility of democracy and the need for citizens to be vigilant in the protection of democratic ideals. We remember because we recognize the importance of preserving freedom, promoting human dignity, and confronting hate whenever and wherever it occurs.

When/Where: Tuesday, April 16 at 5:30 p.m. Flag Raising at the City Hall Circle at 6 p.m. Commemoration Ceremony in the City Hall Council Chambers, 260 High Street, 2nd Floor.

About USHMM: The United States Congress established the Days of Remembrance as our nation’s annual commemoration of the Holocaust and created the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum as a permanent living memorial to the victims. Holocaust Remembrance Day is Monday, April 8, 2013. The Museum designated Never Again: Heeding the Warning Signs as the theme for the 2013 observance. In accordance with its Congressional mandate, the Museum is responsible for leading the nation in commemorating the Days of Remembrance, and for encouraging and sponsoring appropriate observances throughout the United States.
