COMMUNITY VOICE: A Different Point of View

A letter in the 4-10-13 edition had the title “Malapropisms” but provided no evidence for this claim. Is that honest? A malaprop is the use of an incorrect word in place of a word with a similar sound, like “polo bear” instead of “polar bear”.

Anyone who praises a big city but chooses to live in a small town obviously doesn’t want to live in a big city. That should be apparent to most people. Actions speak louder than words.

As for pilots who are armed with a pistol on combat flights, one purpose is to destroy the aircraft if it lands behind enemy lines. I learned this from one of the many WW II history books available in the Perth Amboy Public Library. The other purpose is to defend against civilians who were angered by bombs dropped on their homes. Maybe somebody’s memory isn’t as good as it was over fifty years ago?

One example of a faulty memory is to claim “nobody had lethal weapons,” then. I wonder if the newspapers from the 1930s would support this claim? I remember sporting goods stores on Smith Street who sold guns and ammunition in the 1950s. Does anyone else really believe that a low-velocity .22 caliber firearm is not a lethal weapon? What is the source for this information?

I don’t mention personal names to keep the discussion on the opinions and not the author. Does that writer really support the Bill of Rights? Leonard Levy wrote a book on the Bill of Rights that I recommend to anyone who seeks more information than is found in the corporate media.
