PERTH AMBOY – In spite of the overcast day, July 4th turned out to be spectacular. Earlier in the day the traditional Reading of the Declaration of Independence was held in City Hall Council Chambers. Mayor Diaz rang the replica of the Liberty Bell in City Hall Circle 13 times to represent the 13 Colonies.
Participating in the reading were members of the City Council, the City Historian and members of the City’s historical societies. The night was capped off by a spectacular fireworks display which was the perfect way to celebrate Our Nation’s birthday.
