Sayreville Councilwoman Switches Parties; to Run as a Republican for Re-Election in November

Councilwoman Lisa Eicher to Run with Pat Lembo for Borough Council Seats

– News Release – July 3, 2014 –
SAYREVILLE – The Sayreville Republican Organization has unanimously selected its candidates for two three-year terms to the Democratic-controlled Borough Council.

Councilwoman Lisa Eicher, who is completing her second term on the Borough Council as a Democrat, has switched parties, and will be running on the Republican ticket. She will be running with Pat Lembo, who narrowly lost in his bid for Borough Council last year.

“We are pleased that Lisa has joined our team,” said John Melillo, the Republican chair in Sayreville. “We have always found Lisa to be a strong, independent Sayreville resident. She is the fifth generation of her family here, with a tremendous lineage of public service on the Borough Council.”

During Superstorm Sandy, Eicher spearheaded local relief centers for those affected. “She did a magnificent job; she never sought the limelight for all her hard work or tried to score political points for her commitment to helping people during very difficult times,” Melillo said.

Eicher will be running with Pat Lembo, who narrowly lost in his bid last year to win a Republican seat to the Borough Council.  Melillo said Lembo is an ideal teammate for Eicher, as he also has a tremendous record of public service, serving two terms on the Board of Education and being active in the Leprechaun organization in town for many years.

“We have a very strong team for Borough Council,” said Sayreville Mayor Kennedy O’Brien. “I appreciate the diligent work of our Republican organization during the screening process and ensuring we offer voters the best possible candidates for local office. We have the right team, with Lisa and Pat.”
