MOVIE REVIEW: ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’

“We can’t just stand by while Ronan wipes out the galaxy! A little something, good, a little something bad, a little something both.”

Meet the Guardians of Galaxy, a group of misfit heroes who are unlikely friends. Led by Peter Quill, Star-lord (Chris Pratt) a human who is an honorable thief; Gamora (Zoe Saldana) the most dangerous woman alive; Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista) who wishes only to get vengeance for his family, a lonely Cracker-jacked space-pilot and marksman Rocket Raccoon (Voiced by Bradley Cooper) and his partner, Groot, a talking tree voiced by Vin Diesel.

These space heroes meet in prison and form an alliance in order to stop Ronan the Accuser, an evil alien judge, jury and executer who wants to get his hands on an infinity stone for the evil Titan Thanos.

This group of heroes has to get the stone back and give it to the Nova-Core before Ronan gives the stone to Thanos or uses it himself to wheel destruction upon the Nova-Core and his home planet.

A lot of people ask me, “Why don’t they make space movies like that anymore?”

Guardians-of-the-Galaxy-gang mmmWell, Marvel has. Just like “Star Wars” these characters are interesting, compelling and well rounded. It’s a good character driven story with first rate acting from each member of the cast. The special effects are wonderful. The planets and stars look so realistic you hardly realize that they are actually CGI effects.

Every story has great villains. This  story has that, too. Ronan is practically indestructible cruel judge who is assisted by Nebula, a lady space pirate who has been surgically enhanced.

And we finally get to see the Titan Thanos, the same character who made an appearance at the end of “The Avengers.”

And let’s mention the soundtrack with all the ‘70’s and ‘80’s tunes such as, “Come and Get Your Love” and “Cherry Bomb” and “Please Go All The Way.”

Definitely stay till the end to see the epilogue. There’s and ‘80’s reference and a classic Marvel character that makes a cameo. You can take the kids. There is a little cussing here and there, but I think they can handle it. There’s lots of action that they can’t be bored.

So jump on board with The Guardians of the Galaxy and go see it. It’s probably one of the best movies of the year.
