PERTH AMBOY/SAYREVILLE – In the wake of recent suicides and attempted suicides happening so close together on the Victory Bridge, a directive was issued by the New Jersey Department of Transportation. (See Public Notice)

Barricades were placed on the Perth Amboy and Sayreville ends of the Bridge, blocking the bicycle lane and pedestrian sidewalk. They hope the barricades will be a deterrent from future incidents occurring.

The DOT’s decision came after one of their top officials met with Perth Amboy’s Mayor Diaz, Police and some County and State Officials representing the 19th District.

Diaz wanted the commissioners from the DOT to come to Perth Amboy to see the bridge in person. Since her first term as Mayor she has been calling on politicians on all levels to help get some sort of barriers on that bridge.
