Letter to the Editor: Stop and Listen, We Must Go Partisan!

I have received many calls and concerns sent through others especially our very own elected Perth Amboy Democratic Organization committee members asking me if the Perth Amboy Democratic Org is supporting the Mayor Team for this election.   Other local Democrats especially those who are also running for the 3 local non-partisan council seats are also questioning the posting by the candidates in the paper.

I can assure our local democrats and all democrats running for Local, County, and State office that the office on State Street is not the Perth Amboy Democratic Organization Head Quarters.  After making a few inquiries I was told that this was once again a political stunt.

I remember our County Sheriff Mildred Scott telling me that she does not get involved in non-partisan elections especially when most candidates are democrats. Our last municipal election held in May was in 2010.  Although now held in November, they are still a non-partisan election.

Our current Perth Amboy Democratic Organization committee members believe the same as our sheriff. We agree that we shall not speak on behalf of the committee when supporting a candidate in a non-partisan election especially when we cannot have a local democratic convention.

As a democratic or republican committee person there is a process when choosing a candidate to run on the party line in a June primary.   This process is a convention, run only by the local committees of the local Democratic Party as well as the local Republican Party.

The current administration as well as the current board council has held the process of a convention and primary elections hostage. A process at no cost to our taxpayers since the County holds a primary in Perth Amboy every year.  The move to a partisan election would have minimized the overwhelming issues due to the move of the local elections to November.

I believe this massive misrepresentation to our democratic voting public was wrong.

I strongly hope I have answered all your concerns. Please join us to fight for Perth Amboy Municipal Partisan Election, so that everyone can take part in what other countries fight for-DEMOCRACY!  Support us at padems2014@gmail.com for the move to partisan.

Leslie Dominguez-Rodriguez

PA Democratic Org. Chair
