Over 400 students from the Perth Amboy Public Schools, Catholic Schools and schools located outside of the Perth Amboy district.

An application for the Bill of Rights Arch to be designate as a national historic landmark is presently being submitted.

BILL OF RIGHTS HISTORY IN PERTH AMBOY
In 1789 Perth Amboy was the Capitol of New Jersey. The General Assembly of New Jersey met in the Courthouse (which is now part of City Hall) for the purpose of ratifying the Bill of Rights. The Governor of New Jersey was William Livingston and on November 20, 1789 the Bill of Rights was ratified in the City of Perth Amboy, New Jersey.  The document became a part of the Constitution on December 10, 1791.

On November 20, 1989, “Celebrate Perth Amboy” commemorated the 200th Anniversary of the Ratification of the Bill of Rights, Chaired by Barry Rosengarten at City Hall Circle.  Some of the prominent Perth Amboy residents who participated were the late actor Charles White, the then City Clerk, Harold Augustine, Governor Thomas Kean and Senator Frank R. Lautenberg. The “Bill of Rights” Arch was commemorated in City Hall Circle. The Arch is a replica of the most southerly of the original series of arches in the Market Square.  For a dollar, one could sponsor the authentic water struck bricks used to construct of the Bill of Rights Arch.  Each sponsor received a keepsake of the occasion as a thank you.
