Bishop Donald Hilliard, Jr., Celebrates 31st Pastoral Anniversary at Cathedral International

PERTH AMBOY – Love, Lift and Liberate were the three things the new 26 year old pastor did as he took his place as senior pastor at the Second Baptist Church in Perth Amboy, NJ. “Loving, lifting and liberating was the care this congregation needed as they had just undergone a church split,” said Lead Pastor, Bishop Donald Hilliard, Jr. That was the scene in 1983, the beginning of a pastoral journey that has encompassed more than he and the congregation could have imagined.
This month, Bishop Hilliard celebrates 31 years at the helm of Cathedral International, the former Second Baptist Church, with locations in Perth Amboy, Asbury Park and Plainfield. The celebration begins on Friday, November 14, 7:30pm at Cathedral International with a night of worship and celebration. On Friday, November 21, anniversary guest speaker is the Rev. Dr. Jamal Bryant of Empowerment Temple, Baltimore, MD. Rev. Dr. DeForest Soaries of First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens, Somerset, NJ has been a close friend to Bishop Hilliard during the entire pastoring journey and will be guest speaker on Sunday, November 23 at the 8:30 a.m. worship service. Both Soaries and Hilliard recently completed three month sabbaticals from their churches. Rev. Dr. Jeffery Williams of King’s Cathedral, Providence, RI will speak at the 11 a.m. service.
One of the many highlights of the 31 year journey occurred in 1995 when Bishop Hilliard was consecrated as Bishop. Today, he serves as the Presiding Bishop and Founder of the Covenant Ecumenical Fellowship and Cathedral Assemblies, Inc. In this role, he is the spiritual advisor and mentor for pastors and churches across the United States and West Africa.
