PERTH AMBOY- Earlier this fall, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Sylvia M. Burwell announced over $15.6 million in Affordable Care Act (ACA) funding to 20 health centers in New Jersey to expand primary care services.
These awards enable health centers to increase access to comprehensive primary health care services by hiring an estimated 79 new full time employees, staying open for longer hours, and expanding the care they provide to include new services such as oral health, behavioral health, pharmacy, and vision services. These investments will help health centers reach an estimated 32,240 new patients new patients in New Jersey.
Health centers are vital to implementation of the ACA, not only by providing critical health services but also by linking individuals to coverage through enrollment in the Health Insurance Marketplace. Preparations have begun for the next Open Enrollment Period which begins on November 15, 2014 and runs through February 15, 2015.
In the coming days, Region II Director, Jackie Cornell-Bechelli, will be joined by the New Jersey Primary Care Association’s incoming President, Jillian Hudspeth, to tour health centers throughout New Jersey and give congratulatory remarks to health center staff.
