A Kindergarten Kid Will Teach You

LetterI decided to go into education over 1/2 a century ago. My school had grades K to 8.  I taught 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8th.

On my first day of school my Supervisor said to me, “When you close that door, you will learn more about kids than you ever learned in college or graduate school.”

I’ll never forget that as long as I live.

I taught upper grades so I would get a break for Art and Music. I spent most of this time down with the Kindergarten kids. They got to know me very well. They even called me Tom. These little kids were so honest. They would have a snack and nap time. I used to bring part of a snack because they wanted to know where my snack and blanket were. Had an excuse for my blanket because I left it home some said that they did the same thing.

They would ask me all kinds of questions. Why don’t the older kids hold hands when going home or why don’t they HAVE snack or break time. If I said, “I don’t know.” They wanted to know why or how come? That was 54 years my friends. These kids are now adults.

Stop!!! Think for a minute or two. These little kids had the answer many years ago. They were share, help each other, take a break when you are too busy.

The entire world should try holding hands and be friends with each other.

On the Lower Plateau Expendable

Did you ever notice that when those in charge are shortsighted and stupid, they rarely face the consequences of their actions. Rather, they look to others to shoulder that hardship and blame. The leaders think of themselves as essential and those on the lower plateau expendable. Yet the exact opposite is true. More people seek power and wealth than those who willingly sacrifice themselves in the trenches. And though those in the trenches seemingly are more easily replaced it actually is more simple to replace idiots!

Sincerely,
