SOUTH AMBOY – The Jewish Renaissance Medical Center (JRMC) and United Way of Central Jersey (UWCJ) will launch an incremental campaign to promote the importance of primary and preventative care; and the access of a medical home. JRMC’s mobile medical command unit will function as the primary mechanism to articulate this campaign.

JRMC will deploy the mobile unit to reach target municipalities and subpopulations that UWCJ and JRMC deem as underserved. The campaign will be organized to provide free medical and dental screenings, as well as, patient navigation sessions.

Where: 140 North Broadway, South Amboy NJ – behind City Hall

When: Saturday, December 13, 2014 from 10:00am to 2:00pm

What: Free Medical and Dental Screenings & Patient Navigation

Gloria Aftanski, President of United Way, said recently, “Good health is an essential ingredient for individual success and a thriving community. Healthy children are more likely to succeed in school. The whole community will flourish when all of our residents have access to public parks, playgrounds, healthy foods and quality healthcare. We are committed to more than short-term charity for a few; we are committed to lasting solutions that build opportunity for all.”

By targeting under-served populations which demonstrate poor self-care by not seeing a medical provider on a regular basis and who may not view preventive care as essential we seek to achieve measurable improvement in the following:

1. Lack of or inconsistent medical home where many of our participants will not have a regular primary care provider.

2. Substandard health conditions where most of our participants will present with chronic illness, including many cases of severe acute medical, behavioral and/or developmental disorders.

3. Certain cultural attitudes and characteristics of populations of color adversely impede the pursuit of health treatment.

4. Need for enabling supports that impact their healthcare conditions, particularly housing, transportation and addiction treatment.
