PERTH AMBOY – The resolutions R-53 thru R-57 – 2015 appointing Zoning Board Adjustment Members drew a lot of attention.

On the agenda were only 5 appointments while there were 6 candidates who applied or were reapplying for positions on the Board.

Councilman Fernando Gonzalez made it know that he was not happy that all 6 applicants who interviewed were not on the resolution to be voted on.

Resident David Caba questioned how a person who worked on the campaign and was paid was able to get a position on the Zoning Board. “And that person knew all along that he was going to be appointed.”

Resident Reinaldo Aviles had questioned the appointment of people to the Zoning Board a the 2/9/15 Caucus Meeting. He said, “When I first came on board, I was an Alternate. When someone left, I moved up to a regular Commissioner. The same thing happened when Wilma Matey came on board. She was an alternate, then moved up to a regular Member when someone left. In the past, on the resolution for appointments, all candidates interviewed were put on the agenda when the Council voted. Now the hearing of citizens is toward the end of the meetings.”

City Clerk Elaine Jasko said, “The ordinance set forth the placement of the public portion. The new Council can decide how they want to proceed.”
