PERTH AMBOY/SOUTH AMBOY – Celebrate the Amboy’s Chair Barry Rosengarten announced at a luncheon at the Royal Yacht Club on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 that Fireworks will be back to the Amboy’s on Thursday, July 2, 2015. Garden State Fireworks Company will again be back for the show. As in the past, this is a joint venture with the Cities of Perth Amboy and South Amboy.

Perth Amboy Mayor Wilda Diaz stated, “It does take a lot of planning, a lot of effort and a lot of work. Perth Amboy is at the forefront of a lot of development. I want to thank everyone who is a part of it.” She also noted that Perth Amboy has only one of 52 liberty bells in the entire Country.

South Amboy Mayor Fred Henry stated, “July 2, 1776 was the actual date that we declared our independence but we celebrate our freedom on July 4th.  Fireworks brings everyone together. It’s a family oriented event. I want to thank all the sponsors. We hope to continue the tradition throughout the years.”

Rosengarten added, “It’s us doing the job. I want to emphasize that not one penny of taxpayers’ dollars is going toward the fireworks. Everything is through private sponsors.”

South Amboy Council President Mickey Gross thanked Rosengarten for his work. “Wilda Diaz said, ‘Let’s do it!’ With people knocking government, it’s almost a sound bite, but that’s what’s good with government for a change.” He also introduced 98.3 WCTC Radio Talk Show Host Bert Baron and thanked WCTC for getting the message out.

Baron said, “I thank everyone for their great contributions. We add to the great history of this town.”

Garden State Fireworks owners: brothers Chris and Augustine Santore offered remarks, “We see a connection here and your support. You get lost in it. We’re happy to be back.”

Rosengarten then added, “We’re a nation that’s strong and powerful. We can overcome anything.”

Also present was Freeholder Director Ron Rios who offered a few words. “It takes a team. Middlesex is the second largest County in New Jersey. We support you always.” He thanked the Veterans, “They make the country what it is today.” He also thanked the Fire Departments, the media and everyone who contributes to the Fireworks. “It’s about going out and volunteering – not just about going to meetings.”

At the end of the luncheon, there was a patriotic bingo game. Dan Henrickson won a gift basket.
