Disarming the Police?

LetterOne letter claimed Britain is a “much safer society where the police do not carry guns”, but no statistics were given to support that claim! He failed to mention Canada or the European continent. How many believe we would be safer with a disarmed police? I read that Canada has a higher rate of gun ownership than America. They are also more rural and in a northern latitude, factors that affect the rates of violent deaths (suicides and murder).

What about the countries south of the border? They have a similar colonial history. Do they have a safer society? Does a lack of private gun ownership result in military revolts against elected governments? In the 1930s some New York bankers asked a popular general to lead an armed revolt against President Roosevelt, but he declined and then publicized this request. You can read a history book, such as “63 Documents the Government Doesn’t Want You To Read” by Jesse Ventura and Dick Russell.

Some may believe every gun should be accounted for and registered with the government. But wiser people did not and wrote the Second Amendment to prevent this or any licensing scheme that attacked the right to keep and bear arms. Proper training? That occurs when a family trains their children at home. This worked in the 18th, 19th, and for most of the 20th century.

Will some people also attack the right to read or write or speak when they are not licensed or registered with the government?
