PERTH AMBOY – Resident Dot Daniel had a major concern that was brought to the attention of the Council at the 3/25/15 Meeting. “The elevator has been out of order in City Hall for a month now. This is a government building and should be accessible for the handicapped.”

Business Administrator Jillian Barrick said, “The elevator has been repaired several times. Even after it has been fixed, people still have gotten stuck. The elevator is very old. Buildings and Grounds should be informed when City Elevators are not working.”

Councilman Joel Pabon said, “We need either to replace the company or the mechanic fixing the elevators.”

It was brought to the attention by someone else at the meeting that the elevator at Olive Street is also not working.”

Daniel was also concerned about the angled parking on High Street which leads to very dangerous conditions. “Starting from Harbortown to Commerce Street, how can vehicles be allowed to park like that?”

Deputy Police Chief Larry Cattano came up to address the parking situation. “The parking at Simpson Methodist Church was changed from angled to straight parking because of complaints. Because of that parking change, we did lose parking spaces. We can look at the angled parking situation further down High Street.”

Pabon said, “There’s plenty of parking on High Street to have all the spaces converted to straight parking.”

Cattano finished the conversation by saying, “There have been modifications on the parking situation on High Street leading into Harbortown. The Traffic Bureau is doing calculations on this street to see how many spots we will lose if it’s all converted into straight parking.”
