PERTH AMBOY – An Ordinance to amend Chapter 255A-7 (Handicapped Parking in Business Districts of the Code of the City of Perth Amboy RE: Hardship Exemptions)

The reason for the amendment of this ordinance was in response to a handicapped resident who applied for a metered handicapped spot in front of his residence.

There had been much discussion, especially by Councilman Fernando Irizarry to see how this hardship case would be different for a person who applies for a regular handicapped space.

City Attorney Mark Blunda made it very clear that a hardship case would be under the same constraints as regular handicapped applicants. “The hardship cases will be reviewed every two years to make sure it is still required. The hardship cases must provide certain documentation from their physician.”

Business Administrator Jillian Barrick assured Irizarry, “The applicant who lives in the Business District on Market Street already supplied the additional documentation that was needed.

Councilman Bill Petrick moved the ordinance, seconded by Joel Pabon. Fernando Gonzalez abstained from voting.
