Mayor Diaz Announces No Municipal Tax Increase

PERTH AMBOY – Mayor Wilda Diaz announces that there is no tax increase for Perth Amboy taxpayers and shares the City’s developments and information regarding the latest tax bill.

“The City of Perth Amboy has worked towards building partnerships with commercial business owners to develop vacant properties. This year, due to significant corporate investments and developments of these properties in our tax base, I am pleased to announce that there is NO MUNICIPAL TAX INCREASE,” said Mayor Wilda Diaz.

Tax bill are expected by the beginning of the month of August. For convenience, residents can now access your tax account information through the City’s website to make any future online tax payments, visit www.ci.perthamboy.nj.us.

2015 BUDGETARY HIGHLIGHTS

•CREDIT RATING INCREASE: Moody’s credit rating agency rewarded the City’s improved financial practices with a higher credit rating for the third time in this administration.

•DEBT REDUCTION: The City’s debt was recently refinanced and the benefit was a near $2 million dollar reduction in our overall debt interest expenses.

•CORPORATE INVESTMENTS & FUTURE TAX RATABLES: Buckeye Partners has invested millions of dollars in property improvements that have added to this year’s assessed value.  The Viridian Partners construction project on High Street will begin this fall season and is also expected to result in a multi-million dollar warehousing facility to reflect ratables in 2016.

2015 PUBLIC IMPROVEMENT HIGHLIGHTS

•WATERFRONT RENOVATIONS: The waterfront walkways, bulkheads and other storm damage repairs are nearly complete.  Additionally, a $2M grant awarded to the City that will add fencing, lighting, seasonal beach showers, drinking fountains, volleyball courts, bleachers and a boat ramp to the waterfront area to improve access and recreational use. Construction begins in 2016.

•RECREATIONAL IMPROVEMENTS: Adult tennis courts, basketball courts and a fitness trail were installed on Sadowski Parkway, this year.  In addition, the proposed Raritan Riverfront Park on Riverview Drive received $1.1M in NJDEP Green Acres funding and will include a play area for both small and large dogs, an ecological walking trail, a motorized boat launch, parking and a picnic and grilling area for families.

•INFRUSTRUCTURE STREET PAVING PROJECT: Over $750K of both capital budget and grant funding have been invested in milling and paving roads and ADA compliant upgrades to curbs throughout the City.

•COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENT: A developer has been designated for the 50-acre Celotex gateway property and Commercial Development Company on State Street is currently rehabilitating and redeveloping 70-acres of land of the former ASARCO site.
