PERTH AMBOY – During the public portion of the 8/20/15 BOE Meeting, Resident and Parent, Mel Knight asked some questions to the Board.

“You stated when hiring Dr. Roman that you based his salary on the fact that we have over 10,000 students. When Dr. Caffrey was hired, we had over 10,000 students and you didn’t pay her $200,000. We hired her on June 9, 2011. As of 10/2009 we had 10,156 students; as of 10/15/2010 we had 10,841 students. You told us the salary cap was raised, when there were over 10,000 students when we hired Dr. Caffrey.”

Board President Sam Lebreault later answered Knight’s question. “There were not 10,000 active students (at the time the BOE hired Caffrey.”

Knight once again asked the Board when the Amistad Legislation will be enacted in the curriculum. The Amistad Legislation provides for a more well-rounded history program in the students’ curriculum including Afro-American History.

Later Assistant Superintendent Dr. Vivian Rodriguez stated that this year there will be a Professional Development Day on the Amistad Legislation and that Ms. Knight is invited to attend.
