THE COMMUNITY VOICE: Letters to the Editor

Farewell to Summer!

LetterSummer is my favorite season, but I’m glad to see this one end. Too much noise, loud music, people drinking and urinating in the neighborhood. On August 12, 2015, the Amboy Guardian had an article called Great Job! where the (Patterson St.) neighborhood loud music is almost zero. I’m glad that the neighborhood is quiet during the day and evening. Great for them! That’s the way it should be. No one should be forced to listen to someone else’s music. But I guess each neighborhood is not being treated equally. Since May 16, 2015 to September 6, 2015 I have placed 19 phone calls and been to 2 Council Meetings to divulge my concerns.

I’m hoping that this will be my last summer in this neighborhood, or maybe even my beloved Perth Amboy where I was born and raised, class of ‘72. I shouldn’t be disclosing my age. The City has a plan to redevelop the train station area. I’ve been notified. Farewell.

Sugared Drinks

An editorial questioned that proposed law about sugared drinks. Is it wrong? The purpose of any government is to protect its people. First from foreign invasion; next from internal attacks (murder, robbery, theft, swindles and frauds) whether done by persons or businesses. A government will also act against communicable diseases. Over the past decades there were restrictions added against cigarette advertising and smoking, then for seat belt laws. These lowered the costs incurred by insurance companies. These are personal habits that have effects due to their financial costs. So where do we draw the line?

In a democracy elected representatives make the laws. Businesses also influence politicians to create laws that reward them. Vendors prefer profitable sugary drinks over low-cost cold water. Should profits take precedence over the health of the people? No. The problem with that proposed law is its “one size fits all” approach. One sugary drink a day is not the same as a half-dozen. Perhaps the best law is to require vendors to serve cold water when requested? Is this idea too simple and rational? No one talks about restricting advertising for sugared drinks, as was done for cigarettes.

Those old movies from past decades may have shown smoking and drinking for advertising or “product placement”. Did they show this in the old Westerns from that era? Or the Laurel & Hardy and Abbott & Costello comedies? Dan Moldea’s book “Dark Victory” tells who influences Hollywood.

Black Lives Matter

I have been following the so-called black lives matter movement and find it necessary to show some observations regarding this group.

First, this movement is based on nothing of substance. It has no leadership except those provided by George Soros’ finances, simply mindless young people who believe that every police officer leaves their home every morning specifically to kill blacks.

Second, if there that worried about “black lives”, why don’t they shout their aimless and hate – filled chants at Democrat – run city and county officials who choose to pretend that young blacks killing other young blacks is the real starting point for” black lives matter”.

Third, “black lives matter” disciples are the same people who ascribe to abortion as a viable alternative to condoms, etc.  So this is why they care not for “all lives matter”, as that detracts and invalidates their perceived “justice” stand from their truly directionless efforts.

Fourth, such a group does not strengthen anything or any point in our society. Since they have an unclear and vague objective, they believe that it is okay to interfere with everyone’s rights  – from innocent political candidates to blocking traffic, recklessly impeding the schedules and occupational efforts of United States citizens.

Finally, look at the beauty of “Caucasian guilt without basis.”  White kids involved in this nonsense, while I would defend anyone anyone’s right to protest and express themselves, are essentially the waste – laden, by – products of a collegiate or societally implanted entitlement mentality. They are the resultant sourced in a lack of opportunities delivered by a government – currently beyond repair. They are followers, not leaders by any stretch of the definition.

These young white and black people seemingly have nothing better to do that to scream terroristic threats at the same police they would beg for help if being robbed or raped.
