South Amboy Fire Fighter Dies on Duty

NEWS RELEASE:

SOUTH AMBOY – On October 14, 2015 at 8:16 a.m., the City of South Amboy Fire Department was dispatched to the area of 424 Parker Avenue for a reported smell of natural gas in the area. The initial alarm alerts all five of the city’s companies as well as the city’s fire police to respond. Fire Fighter and Fire Police Officer Gerald “Bear” Celecki was in performance of his duties directing traffic when he sustained an unknown medical emergency. Fire fighters on the scene immediately initiated CPR. The South Amboy First Aid with the assistance of Raritan Bay Medical Center Paramedics quickly arrived on scene and continued to provide lifesaving care. Mr. Celecki was transported to Raritan Bay Medical Center in Perth Amboy but ultimately succumbed to his injures and passed away.

Gerald “Bear Celecki was currently the Chief of the Middlesex County Fire Police.

Funeral details are not available at this time.
