There will be parades celebrating our Veterans: those who are no longer with us, those on active duty and those who are retired. Veteran’s Day  along with Memorial Day and the Fourth of July unfortunately are also commercialized with the sales of the day.

We are taking this opportunity to list organizations locally, nationwide and globally who support our Veterans and their families. Take a look at the list at www.charitynavigator.org

This website lists organizations which help veterans and their families. We urge you to take some of your dollars and contribute to them.

Here are two of the organizations that we have highlighted in the past:

The Fisher House Foundation: I heard about this organization on Christmas Day about two years ago. A radio station devoted three hours to tell the story of how this organization  began. The Fisher House Foundation is best known for a network of comfort homes where military and veterans’ families can stay at no cost while a loved one is receiving treatment. To find out more about this organization go to www.FisherHouse.org

The Wounded Warrior Project: To raise awareness and enlist the public’s aid for the needs of injured service members. To help injured service members aid and assist each other. To provide unique, direct programs and services to meet the needs of injured service members. For more info go to http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org

The statements listed for the Fisher House and Wounded Warrior Project was taken verbatim from each of their perspective websites.)

There are restaurants and other organizations who are giving out free meals to veterans on Veterans Day. We thank them. C.M.
