handicappedparkingPERTH AMBOY – First Reading – An Ordinance to amend an Ordinance entitled, “An Ordinance designating restricted parking spaces for use by Handicapped Persons.” (Ordinance No. 380-85 and Amendments) Adopted July 2, 1985 also known as Chapter 255A Et Seq of the Code of the City of Perth Amboy. Re: Removal of Waiver Clause.

City Clerk Elaine Jasko told the Council as she had done in the past, “The committee that was formed which consisted of myself, the Police and the Parking Utility could not make a decision on an individual’s needs for a handicapped parking space.”

Councilman Joel Pabon was not comfortable having this removal of waiver clause done away with. “People living in the business district can suddenly become disabled.”

Councilman Bill Petrick said, “Let’s go back to what we originally had for the ordinance.”

Council President Lisa Nanton suggested, “We should table this ordinance so we can have further discussions as to what should be done in the business district.”

Interim B.A. Peter Pelissier reiterated the committee’s decision regarding this ordinance.

City Clerk Jasko said, “We were getting too many waiver applications and felt uncomfortable making decisions on them.”

Councilman Fernando Irizarry wondered if they could limit the amount of handicapped spots given in the business district.

Councilman Fernando Gonzalez suggested, “Let’s just table it.”

The ordinance was tabled.
