PERTH AMBOY – The Perth Amboy Arts Council, an advisory Board to the City Council and Mayor Wilda Diaz, welcomed several new members at their first meeting of the new year.  The new members, who were appointed by the City Council, filled existing vacancies on the Board.  They are:

  • Diane Roman, Rec Dept Representative
  • Katerine Granja, Perth Amboy Student Representative
  • BJ Torres

New Alternates are:

  • Ashley Prakash
  • Darlene Vasquez

Current President Caroline Pozycki welcomed them and challenged them to help grow and gain recognition for the Arts Community in Perth Amboy.

The Council also elected new officers for 2016 at the January meeting.  Incoming President Greg Bender, an original member of the Arts Council, is a Trustee of Rutgers University and a supporter of the Visual Arts program.  He has experience in film and video production.  Vice President Ausrine Dereskeviciute, on her second year on the Council and a city resident, is a professional photographer who provided exciting photos of City art activities.  Moving over to Secretary is Diane Roman.

“Caroline did a remarkable job during the past year.  She not only organized the Council and developed its By-Laws, but also led the Council’s efforts to create events for City residents as fast as possible.  You just couldn’t say no to Caroline!  We thank her for her energy and resourcefulness in building the Council from the ground up.  She also organized the music during the first Waterfront Arts Festival.”, Greg Bender remarked.

“I’d like to thank all the Council members for their help and support during this exciting and challenging startup year.  We not only got the Council organized, but we ran events and gave the Arts visibility within the City and helped promote economic development”, commented Pozycki, who urged the Council to keep pushing to advance Arts in Perth Amboy.
