PERTH AMBOY – During the public portion, Resident Stanley Sierakowski came up to the podium to speak. He began with an old expression: “Caesar’s wife must be beyond reproach.” This old proverb stems from ancient Rome when Julius Caesar (supposedly) gave the reason why he divorced his second wife, Pompeia because she was suspected of some wrongdoing, and therefore he could not be associated with her anymore.
Sierakowski explained, “There are three members of the negotiating committee (with the PA-AFT) who are incumbents. When you have a relationship with a Union Member. 3 of 4 of the negotiating committee are BOE incumbents. As a business practice, that does not happen. See the process at it evolves. In the future, take into consideration Caesar’s second wife.”
Board President Sam Lebreault answered Sierakowski, “All 9 Members are conflicted. New Jersey mandates the Doctrine of Necessity where all 9 Board Members on this Board are conflicted. Of the 4 out of 9 Board Members, they are the 4 who are least conflicted of the 9. Jose Rodriguez and Manuel Nunez are not up for reelection. We put a lot of thought into it.”
